A Decade of Service
(Thursday 5 February 2015)
At Tas Maritime Radio's Christmas Lunch in December, three of our volunteers were acknowledged for volunteering with TMR in its various guises for 10 years.
Three of TMR's operators, John Parsell, Derek Blair and Graham Kellaway, have passed the 10-year mark in their voluntary service to Tasmanian mariners. John and Derek were awarded with a framed certificate at Tas Maritime's Christmas gathering in December. Unfortunately Graham was unable to attend and received his award at a later date.
Congratulations to John, Derek and Graham from all of us at Tas Maritime.
After lunch director Barry McCann outlined the significant changes the group has made in 2014, not the least of them the change of name from Coast Radio Hobart to Tas Maritime Radio.
Other changes included the establishment of the West Coast bases at Mount Reid and Elliot Range, a new website, and improved voyage reporting. These are all outlined on this website.
2015 will bring further improvements to Tas Maritime's coverage and services offered to its members.
Director Brian Muir then wrapped up with a rundown of the technical aspects of the changes past and future.
A pleasant lunch was enjoyed by all and it was good to get together, especially as we don't gather all that often, mostly seeing only those who stand the watches before and after our own. It was especially good to chat with and acknowledge the long-suffering partners, without whose indulgence we wouldn't be playing with radios.
