Fisherman hit by allergy
A commercial fishing vessel crew member who suffered an allergic reaction while working with shellfish off Flinders Island has been flown to hospital in Hobart by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Police said Tas Maritime Radio received a mayday distress call about 6.20pm on Wednesday when the 22-year-old NSW man working on the Victorian vessel began to have difficulty breathing. The vessel was about 45 nautical miles north-east of Flinders Island. The rescue helicopter located the vessel and dropped medication for the crew member.
Police said the vessel continued to Killicrankie Bay and about 3am the crew member was transferred to shore by police with the help of a local fisherman and his vessel. The man is in a stable condition.
