Hobart's Wireless Station
As has been previously mentioned in “The Mercury,” the Hobart wireless station has been in touch for some time with the Melbourne and other wireless stations, and testing work on behalf of the Postal Department has been carried on very satisfactorily. On Thursday the station was, for the first time, used for the transmission of public messages, a couple of shipping messages being sent through. The station has been in touch with Macquarie Island, but, until the official opening of the station, next Tuesday, communication with the island will be carried on from the Melbourne station direct. Nothing has been heard by the Macquarie Island station from the wireless station, with which it was intended to establish contact, Dr. Mawson’s main base in Adelie Land.
