Around Tasmania by Jetski

January 2019

At 0801 on Sunday 30 December Tas Maritime’s operator received an unusual radio call from a vessel named Jetski KQ which was departing Devonport and heading for Stanley. As the days, phone calls and radio calls rolled on, we discovered that Jetski KQ was in fact Lindsay Warner from South Australia who was circumnavigating Tasmania on his jetski starting from Devonport and returning there on Friday 11 January.

In Lindsay’s words:

The trip was a total of approximately 50 hours of water time over 10 days with 3 rest days in between. My Kawasaki UltraLX performed without fault from the very occasional calm waters to the significantly challenging weather in between. Travelling from Devonport on the 30th of December, to Stanley, Couta Rocks, Strahan, Pt Davey, Southport, Hobart, Orford, St Helens, Bridport and Back to Devonport, I saw a very beautiful sea and landscape from an angle seen by very few.

On his return to Devonport Lindsay sent an email to thank Tas Maritime’s operators for their assistance during his adventure.

As my time in Tasmania comes to an end, catching the Spirit of Tasmania back to Melbourne, I would like to sincerely thank all of the team from Tasmania Marine Radio for the kind support for my solo Jet Ski circumnavigation around Tasmania. From the first time I made a tentative phone call to make initial contact, through to my first meetings, radio calls and finale to the trip, the professional help I received was always above reproach. For a volunteer organisation, (I think they should be paid) they delivered an amazing service from start to finish.

I thank you sincerely for all of your assistance.

Lindsay Warner
